Space Discovery Program
April 6, 2015 -- Mueller Aerospace & Engineering Discovery Magnet School of Wichita, Kansas announced today that it has begun the initial phase to launch the Space Discovery STEM-based program at the Wichita Campus.
Mueller Aerospace & Engineering Discovery Magnet School of Wichita, KS announced today that it has begun the initial phase to launch the Space Discovery Institute’s (SDI) STEM-based programs at the Wichita Campus.  Dr. Arthur Eldridge SDI Chairman, a retired Air Force F-4 pilot, educator and NASA flight crew instructor remarked, “We are excited to work with Mueller’s dedicated staff to enhance STEM education programs in Aeronautics and Space Science. The program will help develop new labs for Muller’s students while fostering new and exciting skill development in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.”  When fully operational, Mueller’s Space Discovery labs and facilities will be seamlessly integrated with participating schools across Kansas and the nation.  Additionally, the program will incorporate a network of mentors, educators, engineers, and aerospace professionals for the programs.
Inspired by NASA Education programs, The Space Discovery program at Mueller will provide a unique opportunities for students to experience aerospace technologies in a hands-on accredited educational environment incorporating Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) curriculum and mentored by university and industry professionals.
Students will work within training labs which incorporate the latest in spacecraft, capsules and space station modules, producing operational tasks and ideas which may one day lead to future NASA designs, experiments and missions.  Studies also include Lunar and Mars geology, and space exploration training by piloting authentic rovers and drones across distant planet skies and landscapes.
Mueller’s Space Discovery programs are planned for launch in the fall of 2015.  Eldridge stated that, “The Mueller Space Discovery mission includes recruiting volunteers and financial sponsors from the business and the social fundraising community to provide world-class educational opportunities for the students we serve.”  When asked what the Space Discovery programs would mean for the school, Eldridge remarked, “to borrow from Neil Armstrong, a great proponent of education, Space Discovery will be one small step at Mueller and one giant leap for our student’s future.”
