To
Fourth
Grade
"In a world full of
followers, dare to be a leader!"
Projects--
abound in this classroom! We might write poetry that we type and illustrate on the computer.
(We can even add our voices to make slide shows and sound productions for the web
page!). Other times you will find
us making three-dimensional natural disasters for the hallway--volcanoes, torn
ados, blizzards, floods, etc.
Students learn to design videos that can be edited using computer software to create a more
professional looking product. Gingerbread
houses constructed in December give our room the "look and
feel" of Christmas. One of our goals is to have all of the students in our
class participate in Lego Robotics this year. We will be working on a really
special mystery unit this spring. It is called The Great Chocolate Caper.
The
projects we do and the things we learn are limited only by our own imaginations!
Children
in Room 108 learn to be
responsible
students as they progress through the school year. They become very
respectful
as they learn about their
rights, and
the
rights of others.
An emphasis is placed on making wise choices, and learning to accept the
consequences of all choices, positive or negative.
Accelerated Reader-- is an important part of our Language Arts curriculum. Each student is expected to earn a minimum of ten AR points per month. Children need to read every single day in order to improve their reading skills. Please make reading a part of your daily schedule!
Math--
Emphasis is placed on computation (including basic math facts), problem solving
and application of learned skills as we prepare for the district benchmark and
state exams. Students enjoy working
with math manipulatives in order to enhance learning. We work in small groups
and independently to achieve our very best.
Math in Room 108 is a "hands on" learning experience.
Field
Trips--are
carefully selected to enhance the curriculum.
September is the month for the state fair.
Children will see new-born animals, as well as the best in farm
equipment and artistic creations by children of all ages.
Exploration Place will welcome us for the KSN Weather Lab, Kansas in
Miniature, the Health Center, and the Flight Center. Other
trips to look forward to are: "TV or Not TV",
Rock Springs overnight camping trip, and the Cosmosphere in Hutchinson.
Each trip will be an experience to remember!
Fourth
graders in Room 108 can look forward to many exciting learning opportunities. While we will be
focusing on the fourth grade state
exams, we will still have time for field trips, group projects, and
other enjoyable learning activities. Parents
are an essential part of our educational program. Feel free to visit us at anytime. (We can always find ways for parents to help!)
Visitors are always welcome to come in and watch or to participate in our learning experiences!
