"Ask an Astronaut" ResultsJanuary 25-29, 2010

Mueller students from grades 3-5 submitted questions that they would like to ask an astronaut at the International Space Station during the downlink scheduled March 2, 2010 at Exploration Place from 10:35-10:55 AM. The questions were posted on our website and voted on by the community. Voters were asked to vote for ten questions that they wanted the answers to. During the last week of January, about 4000 votes were cast by 500 individuals. The contest winners will have an amazing opportunity to ask their questions to Commander Jeff Williams and Flight Engineers T.J. Creamer and Soichi Noguchi.
The event is part of a series with educational organizations in the U.S. and abroad to improve teaching and learning in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. It is an integral component of Teaching From Space, a NASA project that uses the unique environment of human spaceflight to promote learning opportunities and build partnerships with the kindergarten through 12th grade education community.
You can view this event on Cox Channel 20 or U-verse Channel 99.
NASA Television will air video from the space station during the event. For NASA TV downlink, schedule and streaming video information, visit:

Aviation Day
November 7, 2009
Students at Mueller Aerospace and Engineering Discovery Magnet got a birds-eye view of Wichita on November 7. More than 80 third-, fourth-, and fifth-grade students had an opportunity to take a flight in a small airplane from Jabara Airport. Mueller teamed up with the aviation group EAA Chapter 88 Young Eagles and with Midwest Corporate Aviation for students to learn about flying. Students created parachutes, paper gliders, wing ribs, and learned about the importance of weather and navigation maps. All students attended Ground School in order to prepare for their flight. The day was capped off with the airplane ride. The students received a certificate and a flight log book when they returned to the ground.

Gearing up to Go Green
September 2, 2009
The staff and students are gearing up to recycle paper at the school. Each classroom and area will have a box for paper recycling. It will take full participation to reach our 5 ton goal for the school year.
The Science teacher, Mr. Schuetz, is heading up this endeavor . He will be selecting a group of students to be on the "Green Team." The students selected will be responsible for collecting the materials from the classrooms and other areas in the building and placing them in our recycle bin.
