Mueller offers a complete breakfast
and lunch program for our students. Approximately 50% of our students qualify for
the free or reduced food program.
Although the lunch program is like most typical federally funded
lunch programs, the way we serve breakfast may be unique. Since the majority of Mueller's students
arrive on the daily bus when the bell
rings to go to class, there is little time for everyone to go
to the gym, set up the tables, and eat. Instead, the Mueller breakfast
servers prepare the breakfasts ahead of time in paper bags. They
then stand at the entrance doors and hand out breakfasts and milk
cartons to students as they walk in the door. Students then proceed
to their classrooms to eat their breakfasts and the teachers mark
who ate breakfast at the same time they are doing the attendance
and lunch count. When students are done eating, they take their
trash to a large trash can in the hallway which the custodian
comes around to pick up when everyone is finished.
Our lunch program is set up in the gym.
K-1 students have the first lunch, grades 2-3
have the second, and grades 4-5 are last. After students are finished
with their 20 minute lunch, they have a 20 minute outside recess
before going back to the classroom for the afternoon.
Please note: Parents,
please send a coat, gloves, and a hat to school with your child
on the cold days. We like to go outside even when it is cold to
work out the 'wiggles'. Students enjoy being active and playing
outside. Being outside also reduces the germs that are spread
when students have to be inside for recess sharing toys and games.
We've had a good record for keeping healthy at Mueller! Thanks
for your support.
