Bussing
![]()
Transportation is a big part of
Mueller. We currently
have 21 busses assigned to us and transport from all over the
city of Wichita. Our busses transport only Mueller students this year so should
be more reliable for times and pickups! We are working hard to make the
ride to Mueller as positive as possible for everyone.
Most students have their first experience riding a Mueller bus so our system is highly developed for
those novice riders as well as our experienced riders. We have
seven teachers who are Bus Supervisors. They are on duty both
morning and afternoon. Their responsibilities are monitoring the
busses assigned to their street. Mueller is surrounded by three
streets, 24th Street, Estelle Street and Ellen Street. In the
afternoon, 10 busses are parked in front of the school and 11 busses are parked
west of the school.
When school is dismissed students go to their assigned bus parked
on one of these streets. In the morning, 2nd through 5th graders
are dropped off on Estelle Street while Kindergarten and 1st graders
stay on the bus and ride around the corner to 24th Street where
they are released. Bus Supervisors are at each street to greet
our students as they get off their busses. This system has worked
very efficiently over the many years Mueller has been a part of
the desegregation plan.
We have a Safety Assembly each year in which all students participate. Eric Williams, USD#259 Transportation Department, discusses appropriate and
safe bus riding responsibilities. He is a fantastic speaker and
the children enjoy this assembly. Classroom teachers and staff
also instruct our students about the importance of bus safety.
We incorporate the "whole village" approach when it
comes to our busses.

Questions or concerns regarding the busses can be answered by calling the Mueller school
office at 973-8300. Another helpful phone number in regards
to the busses is Ryder Transportation Company at 838-1555 if a bus is
late or you have bus company questions.
