Library Media

Reading, reading, and more reading is the key to learning. Mueller's librarians contribute to the process by teaching students about the library, what books to look for, and how to research special projects. The library offers students access to many library materials that support classroom learning including: Accelerated Reading books, research materials, the internet, multimedia television, student television broadcasting, VCR channels, and computers for typing Word documents and working with graphics/programs.

The Mueller library is composed of two separate libraries--the K-1 library located in Room 13 and the larger library close by. Students are able to visit the library during regular check out times set up by the classroom teacher or can drop in to look for another book, get help with a research project, and/or access the internet for additional research information with help from the librarian. Mueller offers students a computerized check out system that digitally scans student names and book titles into a computer memory system.

Many special programs are offered by the librarians during the school year that encourage students to get involved in reading. A Book Fair is offered twice a year during Parent/Teacher Conferences for students to buy a new book(s). Reading is Fundamental (RIF) is shared twice a year with the first focusing on a Story Book Character theme at Halloween and a second around a specially chosen spring theme. Six computer/internet stations are available for students to access the internet, work with software programs, and print off their research and writing papers.

The Mueller librarians have been working to increase student reading through the Accelerated Reading (AR) process. Students are now able to read an AR book and then take a computerized reading test to determine reading comprehension on the book just read either in the library on in their classrooms. Thanks to the PTO for their support in helping to buy more AR books and software as well as the new circulation desk and furniture.
