Elementary
students are expected to learn when they are at Mueller. Learning
takes on many forms. It can be fun, challenging, rewarding,
frustrating, educational, and sometimes just plain hard work.
The
Mueller staff and community expects our students to be on task,
respectful, and ready to learn when they are in school. You can
see the evidence of this philosophy in our colorful halls lined
with student work, in the positive interactions between students
and staff members in the classrooms and playground, and in the
way parents feel welcomed to help in the classrooms.
Please read more about
our School Programs in the four areas below:
ACADEMIC
INFORMATION
Accelerated
Reader: The
Accelerated Reader (AR) program is a computerized reading program that tests
students' reading and comprehension levels.
Campus Improvement
Plan:
Mueller's Campus Improvement Plan guides student learning school wide. It
includes reading, writing, and math goals and objectives.
Code of
Conduct/Behavior:
A school wide
Code of Conduct outlines student behavior expectations. We focus on
positive student behavior and keep students busy learning.
Kansas
State Assessments: Mueller students in grades 3-5 will be assessed over
standards in the areas of math and reading in the spring. These assessments
determine if our school makes adequate yearly progress in order to meet
regulations for No Child Left Behind.
Reading Is
Fundamental (RIF):
RIF programs
are set up three times a year for students to go to the library, participate in
a fun and educational learning activity, and then choose a free book to take
home and keep.
T.E.C. STAR:
To meet our students' needs, we have developed
our T.E.C. STAR (Teaching Every Child Science, Technology,
Arts/Academics, and Reading/Writing/Arithmetic) program.
CLASSROOMS
& SUPPORT STAFF

1-5: Students in grades 1-5 focus on academics all day long
through our T.E.C. STAR program. Teachers use district standards and
objectives to meet teaching goals.
Art:
The
Mueller art program introduces
fine art objectives into our students' lives. Kindergarten
through fifth grade students go to art fifty minutes a week.
Music:
The
vocal music program consists of many varied musical components: concerts,
performance, instrument training, music theory/historical studying and singing.
Physical Education:
Mueller students are encouraged to actively
use their bodies for exercise as well as their minds for learning
in cooperative
physical education activities.
Reading
Specialist:
Mueller's reading teacher works with small groups of students to increase their
comprehension and reading skills.

dedicated to helping students learn more about hands-on science experiments and
to meet Kansas State learning objectives.

Mueller's librarians contribute to the learning
process by
teaching students about the library, what books to look for, and how to research
special projects.
Special
Education: Mueller's
self contained special
education program for grade 1-5 mentally
retarded students focuses on
IEP academics through teacher directed instruction and activity
centers.
Gifted Resource:
Our Gifted Resource Room helps gifted
students needing enrichment go beyond their
Instructional Skill Groups and
get additional academic support to meet their learning needs.
Child
Study Team: The Mueller Child
Study Team (CST) is composed of the school psychologist, social worker, speech
therapist, nurse, and principal. It
meets weekly to support student needs and
concerns.
Professional
Therapy Dog: Our speech-language therapist, Tracy
Schoenhofer, has a professional therapy dog. He is a Golden Retriever named
Quincy. Quincy is two years old. He passed his public access test and is a
certified assistance dog. The following are ways language is facilitated by
using Quincy.
