Mueller has been developing a partnership with the
Wichita
State University's (WSU) Professional Development School (PDS)
program to further
our ability to meet Mueller's student needs. WSU PDS students
from John Marshall Middle School have the opportunity to be placed
at Mueller for their elementary student teaching experiences necessary
for state K-9 teaching certification. The PDS students are still
under the supervision of Dr. Michael James and Kathy Harkness
from Marshall Middle School but work directly under our classroom
teachers for their teaching experiences.
Mueller teachers and students benefit from having WSU PDS students
in their classrooms with
the additional help in the classrooms, being able to share and
exchange current educational practices, and having a connection
with WSU which is just down the street from Mueller. WSU has been
supportive in helping Mueller connect with the university by including
Mueller in some inservice grants, and in expanding curriculum and technology learning opportunities
for our teachers. We are looking at ways we can continue to expand
these opportunities.
